The Berlin Centre of Competence for Water (KWB) integrates science, research, and consultancy to promote sustainable water management. KWB focuses on applied research across the entire water cycle and supports municipalities, policymakers and infrastructure operators by linking innovative research with practical application, driving forward creative water solutions for a sustainable future. 

Contribution to EmerGO

KWB is leading the project section dedicated to the development of the so-called Most Effective Treatment Train (METT) tool. In collaboration with the Environmental Research Center in Leipzig, EURECAT (Spain), and QSAR-Lab (Poland), the tool is designed to predict the most effective treatment trains for removing or reducing specific pollutants from wastewater generated by the food and beverage industry. In addition, KWB conducts life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts and operating costs of new wastewater treatment processes and experimentally optimizes adsorption processes using activated carbon to validate the prediction models for the METT tool.
